Abstract

The present study was conducted in Ashti, Shirur. Patoda, Beed and Kaij tahsils of Beed district. The study is about entrepreneurial behaviour of farmers in relation to personal characteristics in selected areas of Beed district. The study was carried out at twenty five villages of Beed district which were selected randomly. From each village five entrepreneurs (farmers) were selected randomly for study and data were collected by direct interview. Thus, total 125 entrepreneurs were selected for the study, viz., majority of the farmers expressed financial problem, lack of exposure to mass media and information and marketing problem as reported by 76.00, 64.80 and 60.80 per cent, respectively followed by lack of knowledge (55.20%), lack of food grain storage facility (52.00%), labour problem (46.40%) and lack of transportation facilities (44.80%), respectively.

Abstract

The present study was conducted in College of Agriculture, Latur under Marathwada Krushi Vidyapeeth, Parbhani (M.S.) in 2011-12. The study was conducted in Latur district. Three tahsils and four villages from each tahsil were selected randomly. Ten respondents from each villages were selected to comprise a sample of 120 respondents. The respondents were personally interviewed and the data collected were processed and statistically analyzed by using statistical techniques like frequency, percentage, mean, standard deviation, co-efficient of correlation. For the study independent variables namely age, education, family type, family size, use of sources of information, extension contact, social participation, and achievement motivation were selected. In this study it was observed that majority (70.83%) of the respondents had favourable attitude followed by less favourable attitude 15.00 per cent and the remaining 14.17 per cent of the respondents belonged to more favourable attitude in rural development activities.

Abstract

The investigation was conducted during year 2012-2013 to study the entrepreneurial behaviour of farmers in Marathwada region of Maharashtra by selecting 125 respondents through random sampling. A pretested structured interview schedule was used to collect the information through personal interview method. Data analyzed by using mean, frequency, percentage, standard deviation and correlation co-efficient. Majority of farmers (51.20%) belonged to medium level of innovativeness, medium farm decision making (63.20%) with medium achievement motivation (58.40%). About (55.20%) farmers had medium knowledge of farm enterprises with medium (71.20%) risk taking ability. The data revealed that 63.20 per cent had medium information seeking behaviour with low leadership ability (40.00%) and medium cosmopoliteness (56.80%). The overall study revealed that farmers had medium entrepreneurial behaviour. It could be observed that, six independent variables i.e. farming experience, education, land holding, annual income, assets and level of aspiration showed positive and significant relationship at 0.05 level of probability, whereas extension contact showed positive and significant relationship at 0.01 level of probability and three independent variables i.e. occupation, social participation and mass media use had non significant relationship with their entrepreneurial behaviour.

Abstract

The present study was conducted mainly with the objective to study the adoption of integrated pest management technology by pigeonpea growers. For this study, Latur and Osmanabad districts were selected randomly by considered the large area under pigeonpea cultivation.It was noticed that, majority of the respondents with 11 to 29 years of farm experience, were educated upto Primary as well as Secondary level, small farmers in land holding, medium in family size, low annual income, agriculture and subsidiary enterprises of occupation, medium social participation, medium extension contact, medium risk orientation and medium economic motivation. It was observed from study that majority (46.67 %) of respondents had medium level of adoption. Out of ten independent variables family size, annual income, occupation, social participation, and risk orientation had positive but non-significant relationship with adoption of pigeonpea growers regarding IPM technology in pigeonpea.

Abstract

The present study was conducted in Nanded district, in Marathwada region of Maharashtra State in the year of 2011-12 with specific objective to study the perceived utility of cattle rearers regarding the rearing of Red Kandhari. From Nanded district, Biloli, Kandhar and Mukhed talukas were selected for study. It was observed from the study that majority of the cattle rearers under study were from low level of farming experiance. Most of them were educated up to primary class, having small size of family, marginal annual income, cattle rearing+ farming occupation, high social participation, medium use of source of information, medium extension contact, having medium herd size and medium level of knowledge. Majority of the cattle rearers' i.e. 37.50 per cent were observed to be in medium level of perceived utility.

Abstract

Soybean is known as golden bean in India. Soybean is grown successfully in various agro climatic conditions ranging from temperate region to subtropical and tropical regions. Marathwada Krishi Vidyapeeth developed various technologies and recommendations for soybean cultivation. This study was conducted to study the adoption of these technologies and their socio-economic impact on farmers and also to understand the constraints faced by the farmers in adopting the MKV recommended technologies in soybean crop. The present study was conducted in the jurisdiction of MKV, Parbhani. The data was collected from the respondents by personally interviewing them with the help of specially designed interview schedule. Twenty five respondents from each of the villages were selected randomly, thus, a sample size of 100 was selected for the study. The results revealed that majority of the respondents had middle age group, educated up to secondary school, semi medium land holding, high experience, well for irrigation, uses surface irrigation and fair category of use of source of irrigation. It was also found that more than half of the respondents had low adoption category about recommended technology of soybean crop and majority of respondents expressed that low impact of technology. It was also found that lack of knowledge of improved technology stands, labour problem and high rate and unavailability of fertilizers at proper time were the major constraints face by them in adoption of MKV recommended technologies.

Abstract

The study was conducted in Latur district. Two tahsils and four villages from each tahsil were selected randomly. Fifteen dairy farmers from eight villages were selected to comprise a sample of 120 respondents. In view with above objectives the multistage random sampling was used to select district, tahsil, village and dairy farmers. Collected data were classified, tabulated and analyzed by using statistical methods like frequency, percentage, mean, standard deviation, correlation co-efficient and multiple regressions. The findings pertaining to the relationship of different selected personal, socio-economical and psychological characteristics of dairy farmers with their entrepreneurial behaviour revealed that independent variables namely dairy farming experience, education, land holding, annual income, herd size, extension contact, social participation, use of sources of information and market orientation had positive and highly significant and whereas, occupation, family size of the dairy farmers had showed non-significant correlation with entrepreneurial behaviour of the respondents.

Abstract

Dairy enterprise, next to agriculture, not only provides continuous income and improves dietary standards of family, but also supplements the income and reduces unemployment to a large number of the rural people. This study was conducted to study the various constraints faced by these dairy farmers while managing their enterprise. The study was conducted in Latur district of Maharashtra state. Two tahsils and four villages from each tahsil were selected randomly. Fifteen dairy farmers from eight villages were selected to comprise a sample of 120 respondents. During research it was found that, lack of storage facilities for milk, high cost of concentrates and distant location of Artificial Insemination Centers are three major constraints to the dairy farmers in management of their dairy enterprise.

Abstract

In India hardly 35 per cent of the total cultivated area is under irrigation. With all efforts we can bring only 50 per cent of the total cultivated area under irrigation and the rest of 50 per cent of the total cultivated area will be permanently under the mercy of rain. In order to increase the production, productivity in dry land area and to narrow down the economic status between irrigated farmer and rainfed farmer, watershed concept has been evolved. In order to achieve an overall improvement in dry land areas, all the aforesaid components were brought under one umbrella that itself is called as watershed management. So it is necessary to know about how many people have knowledge about soil and water conservation practices. With this the study entitled extent of knowledge about soil and water conservation practices by the farmers in watershed development project area was undertaken. The major result was that, majority of the farmers had medium level of knowledge of soil and water conservation practices.

Abstract

For the study, Udgir tehsil of Latur district was selected and from five villages in all ninety cattle tail-hair producers were selected. Data pertained for the year 2007-08. The results revealed that mostly cattle tail-hair producers were from middle age group with education level up to Secondary School. Mostly herd size of cattle was low in the study area. Intensively, cattle tail- hair rope was used for seed drill and offspring’s palana. Lack of skill of industrial products of cattle tail-hair can be solved by training to youth on manufactured products. All the suggestions can be considered in policy making for solving the problems of cattle tail-hair producers.

Abstract

The study was conducted in purposively selected Chakur and Ahmedpur Talukas of Latur district. Data were collected from 120 rural women for the study. It was revealed that rural women gave a number of constraints of which major constraints faced were keeping girls outside for the education is criticized by the people (67.50 per cent), no security is assured against evil elements of society when girls are keeping away from their families (65 per cent), we cannot offer to pay for educational requirement of girls (56.66 per cent), tradition of early marriages of girls do not permit for their studies (40.83 per cent), educated girls have to maintain their standard of living for which we cannot provide extra money (43.33 per cent), girls education cannot pay back to parents after their marriages (40 per cent).
